Dental Implants

Dental implants have become an excellent replacement for tooth roots, and many people are opting for the same. They are restorations fixed under the gum line and are meant to fuse with your jawbone. Dental implants are more comfortable and easier to maintain than other tooth restorations. At Wedgewood Dental, we provide modern dental implants to restore your oral functions and smile aesthetics.

Who Can Have Dental Implants?

  • They are a solid alternative for people with missing teeth
  • You can opt for this procedure if your jaw has sufficient bone density and volume to support a prosthesis
  • Healthy oral tissues and overall general health
  • Non-smokers

What are the Different Types of Dental Implants?

Dental implants can be Endosteal or Subperiosteal.

  • Endosteal Dental Implants

They are the most standard type of dental implant where our dentists will embed the metal implant in the jawbone so that they can hold one or more of your artificial teeth.

  • Subperiosteal Dental Implants

Under this type of dental implant, our dentists will attach the implant to the top of your jawbone. They are suitable for people whose jawbone does not have enough volume or size.

Dental Implant Procedure

Placing dental implants in the jawbone is a lengthy process and may require multiple visits to our dental office. The high precision and strength provided by the implants will ensure their longevity. After determining your suitability, we will begin by surgically placing the implant studs in your jawbone and suturing the site. It will take a minimum of six to twelve weeks for the implants to fuse with the surrounding bone mass and heal appropriately.

Once completely healed and integrated with the jawbone, we will take digital impressions of the teeth and fabricate a porcelain crown. We will make sure the new restoration matches the color of your existing teeth. The crown will be bonded to the implant using adhesives and an abutment, and we will take a bite test to ensure your natural bite hasn't been disrupted.

Dental Implants After-Care

Like the other dental procedures, dental implants also require aftercare. You must care for them just like your original teeth. Make it a habit to brush your teeth twice a day and follow a regular flossing routine. We also urge you to keep visiting our office for a regular dental examination from time to time. With efficient care, your dental implants can last a lifetime.
