How to Care for Your Teeth at Home

Having healthy teeth and gums is important in living a comfortable and healthy life. Otherwise, with various issues like tooth cavities, decays, etc., you may end up losing teeth. Lost teeth, in turn, can affect daily functions like speaking, eating, etc. This can also affect your self-esteem levels too.

So, here in this blog, we will help you through some tips in taking care of teeth at home.

  • Brushing and Flossing

Brush twice and floss once a day. Regular brushing and flossing play important roles in preventing the accumulation of food waste between teeth and gums that lead to plaque and tartar formation.

Electric brushes are more preferable to normal ones. Use one with soft bristles. Also, remember to change the toothbrush every six months. When it comes to flossing, there are various types of floss available like standard waxed or unwaxed floss, dental tapes, floss pick, etc.

  • Use Fluoride Toothpaste

Fluoride is used to protect teeth against tooth decay by reducing acid production from accumulated plaque. It also helps in reinforcing the tooth enamel. The fluoride in toothpaste also eliminates demineralization, a process in which the bacteria combines with sugar and creates cavities in the teeth.

  • Introduce a Mouthwash to Your Dental Routine

Mouthwash can help in keeping your mouth free from potentially harmful germs and bacteria. Pick a mouthwash with cetylpyridinium chloride, fluoride, and peroxide as key ingredients.

  • Drink Enough Water

Drink eight glasses or more of water. This will help remove the impurities and other toxins not only in your mouth but also in the whole body. It is better if the water also contains fluoride.

  • Eat Healthy Food

Control the intake of food with high sugar like snacks and soft drinks. Don’t eat very hot or cold food. Start adding nutritional items like fruits, leafy vegetables, cereals, dry fruits, etc., to your menu. This will help in maintaining your dental health for sure.

  • Avoid Smoking

Not just smoking, avoid tobacco products also. If you are an addict, you may need to slowly cut back on their use. Only then can you have a healthy, brightening smile.
